We have had several requests from users
who wish to export Shop Trac data such as a customer list to
an external label printing program in order to print
customized labels for promotional purposes. This
tutorial uses one of the more popular label printing
programs, Avery Label Pro. The technical aspects of
this process will be similar for other programs that accept
external data files as well. Avery Label Pro is
available for download
here
Create the Export File
From Shop Trac, use the Utility | Export | Customer option
to create the data file that we will be using with Avery
Label Pro (LP). For the sake of this example, we will
use the file name
C:\CUST.CSV
You must change the format from FIXED to
DELIMITED (very important). You can be selective in creating this
export file by using ABC selection.
Edit the Export File
This step is optional, but you may wish to use an editor
such as Windows Notepad to edit the
C:\CUST.CSV
to remove any un-wanted entries as LP will print labels for
ALL records in this file. You will notice that each
record is on a single line. Simply highlight and
delete the records that you do NOT wish to print. Be
careful that you only delete entire lines and not parts of a
line!
Design and Print Labels
The remainder of this process is done from within Avery
Label Pro (LP). We will assume that you have installed
and have at least a working knowledge of this program.
We are not prepared to offer support on the use of Avery
Label Pro.
