OPL Users Guide

This users guide is in no way intended to be an exhaustive guide to using OPL.  It deals briefly with each of its major functions.  Online help is always available from within OPL by pressing the <F1> key.

Common Features

OPL is based on the same user interface as Shop Trac.  What follows are some of the features of this user interface:

bulletOnline help is available from almost anywhere using the <F1> key.  User defined help files can be created and are accessed using the <ALT><F1> key combination.
bulletFile lists are presented in pop-up boxes.  From this list a highlighted file can be deleted using the <DEL> or Delete key, or a new file can be created using the <INS> or Insert key.
bulletOPL supports both keyboard and mouse operations.
bulletOPL uses a drop down menu system.  Use your mouse or cursor keys to highlight and option.  Left click the mouse or press <ENTER> to execute it.
bulletA calculator can be accessed using the <ALT><L> key combination.
bulletThe <ESC> key is generally used to exit from a field and/or screen.

Edit | Add/Edit

This option is where all the action is.  Select an available price list from the popup list, or press the <INS> key to create a new one.  Note that a file extension is not required, and assumed to be .PRC.

Once a file has been selected, keying a part number will display this item (if it exists), or you can add it if it does NOT exist.  Press <F2> to search by 'Part Number', <SHIFT><F2> to search by 'Description'.

Most of the options on this screen should be self explanatory.  The 'SS' option is used to supercede an existing part number.

Edit | Factor

Just like it says.  Select an existing price list and apply a factor to the prices in this list.  This is useful when a manufacture changes prices by a percentage rather than issuing a new price list.

Edit | Branch

This option is almost identical to the Edit | Add/Edit option, except that it displays data from 'Branch' files.  Branch files are created by Shop Trac, and allow OPL users to share data with other Shop Trac users.  Another difference with this option is that it displays a 'Balance' rather than a 'Package Quantity'.

Select an available branch list from the popup list, or press the <INS> key to create a new one.  Note that a file extension is not required, and assumed to be .BRA.

Colours

Simply that.  This option is used to change the display colours.  It looks complicated, but if you play with it for a few moments you will see how easy it is.  Please be careful that you don't change the colours to something invisible.  If you do, it will be necessary to reinstall OPL.

Utility | Dos Shell

This option exits to a Dos Shell.  Type EXIT from DOS to return to OPL.  This even works with Windows XP ... and they said DOS was dead!

Utility | Import

This option is used to import ASCII price lists into OPL.  When selected, you can import into an existing price list file from a pop-up list of files, or create a new  price list file by pressing the <INS> or Insert key from the pop-up list of price list files.  Please note that when importing into an existing file, existing records are updated to agree with the data being imported.  After a destination file has been selected, the following fields need to be completed:

bulletImport File Name:  This is the name of the ASCII file being imported.
bulletImport File Format:  This is the name assigned to the format of this file.  OPL ships with the 'Native' format already defined, or you can simply input a different name to assign to a different format.  Use the <F2> key to scan for available formats.  If an existing format is selected, all of the remaining fields on this screen will be completed based on that format.
bulletVariable Offsets/Lengths:  Each field being imported requires an offset and length value.
bulletSuperceded Pattern Offset:  This is the offset where a unique pattern begins for superceded part numbers.
bulletSuperceded Pattern:  This is the actual pattern such as USE.
bulletFactor:  Each price field has a factor, normally set to 1.00.
bulletPackage Prices:  If this field is set to Yes then all prices will be divided by the package quantity to result in a Price Each price.

After all fields are completed, there are 5 menu options for further processing:

bulletSave: Saves the displayed Import Price Format.
bulletEdit: Returns the cursor to the data area to allow further editing.
bulletDelete:  Deletes the current Import Price Format.
bulletProcess: Imports the data as specified.
bulletAbort:  Aborts the operation.

Utility | Export

This option will create a 'Native' format ASCII data file from a price list file that is selected from a pop-up list.  You will also need to specify a name for the output file.

Quit

Used to close and exit from OPL.
